About the artist: Lara Crowfrom the UK

Lara Crow is an illustrator and art editor, living and working in London. She has created journal covers, editorial illustrations, cards, posters and also does happy geeky wedding invites for fun couples. When not drawing, photoshopping, cutting up bits of paper or knocking ink over everything, she is usually found drinking many cups of tea, thinking about how great dogs are and watching films. She enjoys computer games, visiting new places and biscuits. She does not enjoy clowns, mushrooms or small spaces.

Why this work

“Most covers for this book tend to go for a desolate moor landscape, but I was interested in bringing out more of the organic unruliness and life of the plants on the moor. I was always struck by the way the landscape and Cathy were connected in the book and wanted to play on that. The scene at the window haunted me and I imagined the little chilly wraith of Cathy appearing from the plants and mist around the window, so it seemed a great moment to choose to illustrate. I was playing around with a papercut idea and it just sort of grew up from there!”
