The artist: Studio Luc Deryckefrom Ghent (BEL)
Luc Derycke (1963) attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and has been active as a publisher, editor and designer of books since 1988. In 1993 he started concentrating on the graphic design and production of art books. The goal is to repeatedly (and to the extent that it is possible) reach a perfect fusion of all aspects involved in the development of a book, which next to content and form, include institutional context, historicity, relation to the canon(s), the market , budget, technology and materiality. 'Form' is an understanding that stretches far beyond graphic design itself.
In 2005 he started Studio Luc Derycke, where he still works today together with Jeroen Wille, Ellen Debucquoy and Aurelie Daems. In the same year, 2005, Luc Derycke he founded MER. Paper Kunsthalle vzw. to organise his publishing activities. This association aims to explore the book as mental exhibition space. MER. Paper Kunsthalle also sets up collaborations with the music industry under the label AudioMER, today emodied by Jeroen Wille and Wouter Vanhaelemeesch. Studio Luc Derycke works for a long list of customers from the art and architectural world at home and abroad, and has won several awards.
